Marcelline Block, Lecturer in the Department of History at Princeton University, edited several publications: Situating the Feminist Gaze and Spectatorship in Postwar Cinema (Cambridge Scholars, 2008; second edition in paperback, 2010); Gender Scripts in Medicine and Narrative (Cambridge Scholars, 2010, co-editor), and Collaboration, a special issue of Critical Matrix: The Princeton Journal of Women, Gender and Culture (vol. 18, 2009, co-editor). She was an editor of LINE: the Journal of the Richard and Mica Hadar Foundation (issue 1, winter 2007 and issue 2, winter 2008). She contributed chapters to several anthologies: The Many Ways We Talk about Death in Contemporary Society: Interdisciplinary Studies in Portrayal and Classification (2009) and Vendetta: Essays on Honor and Revenge (2010). She is a member of the editorial board of the eight-volume International Encyclopedia of Revolution and Protest, 1500-the Present (2009, Wiley-Blackwell). Her articles have appeared in several journals: Excavatio, vol. XXII: Realism and Naturalism in Film Studies (2007); The Harvard French Review (2007), and Women in French Studies (no. 16, 2008; no. 17, 2009). Her writing has been published in French in Vingtième Siècle: revue d’histoire (vol. 96, 2007) and in Russian Art Beyond Borders: Late 20th Century-Early 21st Century (2010).

Marcelline is the recipient of distinguished fellowships for graduate study at Princeton including the Jacob K. Javits Fellowship from the US Department of Education; the Dissertation Writing Fellowship from the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies; the Princeton University Prize; the Dean’s Fund for Scholarly Travel Grant; scholarships from the Mensa Education and Research Foundation, and a John L. Dales Foundation/Screen Actor’s Guild Scholarship. Marcelline graduated from Harvard, BA magna cum laude in History and Literature (France and England), with foreign language commendations in French and Swedish. At Harvard, she was a Philip Murray Reynolds Memorial Scholar and received the John Harvard Scholarship and the Elizabeth Cary Agassiz Certificate of Merit in recognition of academic achievement of the highest distinction as well as a Harvard College Scholarship, Mensa Education and Research Foundation Scholarships, a John L. Dales Foundation/Screen Actor’s Guild Scholarship, and research grants from the Harvard College Research Program, the Dean’s Summer Thesis Research Award and the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies (both for study and research abroad).

A dedicated educator, Marcelline has taught at Princeton since 2003, teaching courses in several departments including the Departments of French and Italian; the Department of English; the Department of Comparative Literature; the Department of Politics; the Program in Gender and Sexuality Studies (formerly known as the Program in the Study of Women and Gender); and the Program in Visual Art. She is currently Lecturer in the Department of History.
