Violinist Yuriy Bekker has performed worldwide as a celebrated guest concertmaster, avid chamber musician, and critically acclaimed soloist. Yuriy led the Charleston Symphony Orchestra in South Carolina as concertmaster since 2007 and was recently named Director of Chamber Orchestra. He served as Acting Artistic Director from 2010 to 2014. He played a major role in resurrecting the orchestra after it had shut down for five months due to financial problems. The orchestra is now profitable and has increased attendance two fold and growing. In recognition of his achievements and to honor his cultural contributions, he was given the Outstanding Artistic Achievement Award from the City of Charleston. Yuriy Bekker is an adjunct faculty member of the College of Charleston School of the Art and conductor of the College of Charleston Orchestra.
